in Pierry.

A vineyard walk in Avenay-Val-d’Or, followed by two centuries of family heritage and two luminous cuvées in Pierry.

The visit began among Pinot Noir and Chardonnay parcels in Avenay-Val-d’Or, then continued at Henriot’s historic home in Pierry. The relationship between landscape and house was experienced not as an explanation, but as two consecutive chapters.

Tension and refined strength

Two wines from Henriot’s Chardonnay-led style stayed especially close to me. L’Inattendue 2018 expressed the Chardonnay of a single village with saline, razor-sharp purity; Cuvée Hemera 2013, blending Grand Cru Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, answered with layered strength and fine balance.

Henriot’s confidence is quiet: the light of Chardonnay and the poise of Pinot Noir speak for it.

By the end of the morning, the maison’s more than two centuries of independence felt not like history, but like a contemporary style of precision and restraint.
